Burnaby, British Columbia – April 23, 2013 - Icron Technologies Corporation, a leader in USB and video extension technology, in conjunction with Point Grey, a world-leading designer and manufacturer of innovative, high-performance digital cameras, today announced joint interoperability between Point Grey’s complete USB 3.0 machine vision camera portfolio and Icron’s fiber based USB extender, the USB 3.0 Spectra™ 3022.

The USB 3.0 interface brings tremendous benefits to machine vision applications such as speed, resolution and affordability; however, without extension, the USB 3.0 cable lengths are limited to approximately five meters, creating installation issues when longer distances are required.

Point Grey’s USB 3.0 camera product lines, the Flea3 and Grasshopper3, have undergone interoperability testing with Icron’s Spectra 3022 extender solution, validating reliable operations. “Icron’s USB 3.0 extender technology enables our Flea3 and Grasshopper3 cameras in applications that demand extended cable length such as industrial automation or intelligent traffic systems” said Paul Kozik, Product Manager at Point Grey. “Applications traditionally serviced by analog or Ethernet interfaces can take advantage of USB 3.0 bandwidth and ease of use to increase performance, throughput and lower system cost,” added Mr. Kozik.

“Point Grey is recognized as a leading industrial vision camera supplier and one of the primary innovators contributing to the development of USB3 Vision. Icron is pleased to confirm robust performance of our Spectra 3022 extender across Point Grey’s USB 3.0 camera portfolio,” stated Glenn Antonelli, VP of Marketing at Icron Technologies.

Cable length specification addressed with joint solution

Ottawa, ON, Canada – January 22, 2013 – Lumenera Corporation, a leading manufacturer and developer of high performance digital cameras and custom imaging solutions for scientific, industrial and surveillance markets, together with Icron Technologies, a leading developer and manufacturer of high performance USB and video extension products for commercial and industrial markets, is pleased to announce a joint solution to extend USB 3.0 cameras. Lumenera’s Lt425 and Lt225 USB 3.0 cameras can be installed with Icron’s USB 3.0 Spectra™ 3022 100 meter optical extender, guaranteeing performance beyond the length limitations of standard USB cables.

The practical length limit for a USB 3.0 cable is restricted to at best 20 meters when using active cables, short in comparison to other technologies such as Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) that can reach 100 meters. Lumenera has addressed this issue with Icron’s 100 meter multimode fiber extender system for SuperSpeed USB 3.0. The combined solution leverages the high-bandwidth USB 3.0 interface to deliver high speed, high resolution images even at distances as far as 100 meters. This plug-and-play joint solution enables new applications for USB 3.0, plus facilitates versatility.

The Lt425 and Lt225 offer high-speed streaming video and image capture using SuperSpeed USB 3.0 technology to ensure the fastest image delivery, up to 170 fps at maximum resolution. The industry proven CMOSIS CMV4000 and CMV2000 megapixel sensors with fully electronic global shutter capture excellent quality, high-speed images with zero blur. Product highlights include a robust, sleek enclosure, compact design for integration, color, monochrome and NIR variants, as well as industrial and scientific-grade models. The fully locking USB 3.0 cabling and digital interface ensure a simple plug-and-play installation with no framegrabber required. The built-in camera memory delivers a dependable, reliable flow of images, without exception. Built-in FPGA-based image processing ensures the highest image quality without having to compromise on performance.

Icron’s Spectra 3022 is a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 extension solution, which supports USB 3.0 5Gbps throughputs up to 100 meters (330 feet) via OM3 multimode fiber optic cabling. The Spectra 3022 features two locking USB 3.0 ports delivering 900mA power to each port. Incorporated with Icron’s patented ExtremeUSB® technology is a suite of features including plug-and-play capability with no software drivers required and compatibility with all leading operating systems. This extender is backed with a two year warranty and will be Automated Imaging Association (AIA) USB 3.0 Vision compliant upon the standard’s release.

“Customers now have the ability to position our high-speed cameras at a distance of up to 100 meters, opening up a realm of scientific, industrial, and surveillance applications that were limited with USB 2.0. This is a very exciting opportunity for us.” said Dany Longval, Director of Product Management at Lumenera Corporation.

“We are very pleased to provide a reliable USB 3.0 extension solution for Lumenera’s customers.” said Glenn Antonelli, Director of Marketing at Icron Technologies. “USB 3.0 Vision is well poised to become a dominant standard for machine vision applications and it is critical that installation issues pertaining to distance limitations be resolved. The Spectra 3022 bridges the gap.”

The Lumenera and Icron joint solution is now available and will be on display in booth #228 during the AUTOMATE 2013 Conference being held in Chicago, Illinois from January 21 to 24, 2013.
