Icron USB Extender Enables Radio
Astronomy Research

Volunteers at the Shirleys Bay Radio Astronomy Consortium (SBRAC) have restored the D.S. Kennedy, a 60-foot dormant parabolic satellite dish by deploying Icron's USB Ranger® 2101 Extender to provide connectivity between the digital microwave receivers on the dish and the data collection computers located on the campus network 150 feet away.

"It was clear to me almost immediately that the USB Ranger 2101 product was exactly what our project was looking for," stated Marcus Leech, principal investigator, SBRAC. "If Icron's products didn't exist, we'd be looking at very expensive custom solutions," added Leech, "and by using their USB Ranger 2101 extender, we can easily connect to our microwave digital receivers making it possible for us to conduct radio astronomy research."
