Icron introduces next generation USB
2.0 extension solutions
BURNABY, B.C. April 15, 2008-
Icron Technologies Corporation (TSX Venture: IT), the developers
of ExtremeUSB, and the world leader in high performance USB
1.1 and 2.0 bridging solutions, announced today the release
of the USB 2.0 Ranger 2101 and USB 2.0 Ranger 2104 Cat 5 extenders,
which offer significantly lower cost and improved distance
over previous USB 2.0 extension solutions.
“First in a series of solutions focused on lower cost
flexible USB 2.0 over any media connectivity”
“Our customers are connecting USB enabled devices in
more challenging and unique applications which demand higher
performance and flexibility from our ExtremeUSB technology.”
stated Robert Eisses, President and CEO of Icron Technologies.
“We are committed to enhancing the technology to increase
the implementation options to be able to dramatically expand
the market for ExtremeUSB technology. Ranger 2101 and Ranger
2104 are the initial products in a new series of solutions
from Icron that include other cost down products and ultimately
a family of single chip ExtremeUSB devices, ideal for embedding
into a variety of applications.”
Over the past 18 months the company has focused its Research
and Development initiatives on evolving its core ExtremeUSB
technology to be more flexible and cost effective to encourage
quick adoption into larger markets. With over 2 Billion USB
ports shipped to date and increasing penetration in the consumer
electronics (CE) space, there is a growing demand from customers
to move USB beyond the desktop and provide flexible bridging
solutions for USB 2.0 devices. Ranger 2101 and Ranger 2104
are the first products to be introduced in Icron’s next
generation USB 2.0 bridging product line that will include
finished product solutions, embedded modules, chipsets and
IP Cores enabling end users, OEM’s and ODM’s to
implement USB 2.0 bridging and extension solutions powered
by ExtremeUSB technology.
ExtremeUSB transparently bridges USB over a variety of media,
from Cat-5 and fibre optics to current and future wireless
media, power line communications and coax platforms. When
combined with video, ExtremeUSB provides the ideal plug and
play solution for remote desktop and KVM applications in a
variety of markets including industrial, commercial, and medical.
In the growing Digital Home market, ExtremeUSB enables a cost-effective,
plug and play solution for home users to extend the full PC
desktop, not just selected media, to any TV in the home, without
installing another PC by the TV.
The launch of the Ranger 2101 and Ranger 2104 is a significant
step in Icron’s strategy to provide low cost, high performance
solutions to the market. The Ranger 2101 provides a single
USB 2.0 remote port at 100m over CAT5 cables, resulting in
a 100% increase in distance over previous solutions, at 45%
of the cost. The Ranger 2104 offers the same performance and
integrates a USB hub to provide four remote USB 2.0 ports.
Ranger 2101 and Ranger 2104 are available for sale at a MRSP
of $349.00 and $389.00 USD, respectively.
