Adder embedded Icron’s patented ExtremeUSB® technology into their AdderLink X-USB KVM extender enabling all USB 1.1 devices to be extended over 328 feet (100 meters) of Cat 5 cable. Icron’s USB 1.1 ExtremeUSB solution extends true full speed USB over a single twisted pair, leaving the other three pairs of a standard Cat 5 cable free to transport other media such as RGB video and audio. In Adder’s X-USB KVM solution a single Cat 5 cable carries high definition audio and video media with video signals at resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 and advanced finely adjustable cable equalization ensures a sharp picture quality. Full speed USB provides a seamless integration of RGB video and analog audio over long distances. The AdderLink X-USB has been designed to provide industry-leading video clarity, compatibility and high rack densities. Both transmitter and receiver units can be used stand-alone and up to 16 units can be mounted into a 2U rack-mountable chassis.

The AdderLink X-USB KVM extender’s quality and flexibility has provided the ideal solution for customers in a wide variety of end markets. For instance, a retailer was able to provide the latest advice and information to its consumers by extending interactive signage from a secure, air-conditioned server area in the back office to touch screens and keyboard/mouse functionality in the shop.

In another application, a museum chose to install widely dispersed interactive kiosks and displays located throughout the building. A total of forty PCs were installed throughout the museum, and some of them were located up to 100 meters from the PC actually running the presentation. Without wanting to compromise video quality, sound clarity or aesthetics, the PCs were located in a centrally secured and climate controlled computer room. The response time of the interactive kiosks was lighting fast with minimal compromise to quality. Similar kiosk applications are widely used at trade shows and professional conferences.
