The Solution
IHSE chose Icron’s ExtremeUSB® technology to deliver true USB 2.0 over long reach connections. ExtremeUSB® is ideally suited for this application, a simple hardware solution requiring no software drivers, and compatible with all mainstream operating systems, ExtremeUSB® provides true USB 2.0 connectivity for all USB device types at reaches up to 140m over Cat 5 and 10km over fiber optics. For the Draco product IHSE selected Icron’s proven ExtremeUSB® Core 2100 modules. The compact embedded modules ensured a minimal risk for the IHSE design team to meet delivery and performance expectations.

IHSE’s KVM Extenders are compatible with the IHSE DracoTM Switch technology that gives users the ability to have a matrix of computers and extenders, with users choosing which machine to control from any workstation. The Draco™ DVI KVM switch allows 16 independent users to remotely connect up to 1024 computers with full USB peripheral I/O support.

Industrial Scenario
A development or data analysis company will often locate and secure servers in a temperature controlled, centralized location. The KVM switching and extension solution allows for workstations to be placed as needed throughout the offices. Each desktop workstation can select and connect to any server from the centralized location. With short key/mouse commands users can switch quickly and easily to display and control different desktops as required. With ExtremeUSB®, additional USB peripherals such as USB speakers, flash drives, and webcams can also be connected at any workstation to enhance the capabilities and user experience.

Education Scenario
A distributed KVM switch and extension solution is ideally suited to enhancing the classroom experience. With an individual workstation at each desk, teachers and students can interact on shared or individual lessons. Instructors can provide rich multimedia presentations to enhance the learning experience and collaborate with students collectively or individually by sharing or accessing individual student desktops. ExtremeUSB® enables connection of a wide variety of devices from storage devices for distributing or saving content to web cams and audio devices that aid in enabling an interactive learning environment.

The Result
Icron’s ExtremeUSB® technology breaks through the five meter USB cable limit and enables all USB peripheral devices to function as if they were directly connected to the host PC, without the need of any additional software drivers. By integrating Icron’s ExtremeUSB® technology into their DVI KVM extender systems, IHSE delivers high definition video, audio and complete USB peripheral support on multiple computer systems up to 140m over Cat 5, or up to 10km over fiber optics.
