Comdex, Las Vegas – Icron Systems Inc. announced today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ADS Technologies, Inc. of Los Angeles, California, for ADS to become a founding member of Icron’s ExtremeUSB Team. Icron’s proprietary ExtremeUSB technology extends the Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection distance from the current specification of 15 feet (5 meters) between devices to 330 feet (100 meters).

The ExtremeUSB Team has been established to further the development and marketing of ExtremeUSB technology. Members participate to obtain a competitive advantage through the use of ExtremeUSB in their products.

At their respective Comdex ’99 booths, ADS and Icron are demonstrating ExtremeUSB by connecting a USB video camera in the ADS booth (USB 53) to a PC in the Icron booth (USB 20) at least 100 feet away utilizing standard Ethernet cable. Until now, USB products have been limited by cable lengths of 15 feet (5 meters). This demonstration shows how ExtremeUSB can enable new USB applications such as high performance PC video surveillance.
