BURNABY, B.C. October 18, 2005 – Icron Technologies Corporation (TSX Venture: IT), the developers of ExtremeUSB®, today announced its joining of the UWB Forum as a contributing member to offer UWB Forum members a standard wireless USB 2.0 over Ultra-Wideband (UWB) solution.
Icron’s ExtremeUSB technology is a USB 2.0 compatible solution that is designed to support all existing USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices in the market today. It will allow manufacturers of PC’s, Peripherals, and Consumer Electronics to wirelessly enable their products without making any changes to the USB ecosystem, meaning that users will truly have a “plug and play” experience right out of the box.
“Icron’s ExtremeUSB technology allows us to leverage the large, installed base of USB applications that desire the high data rate, low power consumption performance of UWB,” said Martin Rofheart, director of Ultra-Wideband Operations for Freescale Semiconductor. “Customers want a simple USB 2.0 wire replacement solution, and ExtremeUSB technology is one of the quickest and easiest way to make that happen,”
The primary benefit of Icron’s Wireless USB solution is its existing USB 1.1 and 2.0 support, requiring no additional drivers, host controller changes, or users configurations. It is a true USB “plug and play” solution that gives the user a wire-like USB experience. It supports all USB supported operating systems including Windows, MAC OS, Linux, Unix and Solaris.
Pulse~LINK President and COO, Bruce Watkins commented “We support the Icron USB 2.0 over Ultra-Wideband vision and look forward to their contribution to the UWB Forum members including Pulse~LINK.”
Icron’s solution can be implemented over any Ultra-Wideband platform and offers true USB 2.0 support, allowing for rapid time to market, and full legacy device and USB host support.
“Icron brings a demonstrated solution that enhances the efforts of the UWB Forum” said Mike McCamon, executive director of the UWB Forum. “We are very excited to have a leader in the USB market choose to join our member community as we continue to build momentum toward interoperable Ultra-Wideband products.”
