IHSE USA Features Live USB 3.0 Demonstration with ExtremeUSB® Technology at the 2014 NAB Show®

IHSE showcasing USB 3.0’s superior throughput performance over USB 2.0 at NAB booth SL12716 from April 7th to 10th at Las Vegas, Nevada

Burnaby, British Columbia – March 27, 2014 – Icron Technologies Corporation, a leader in USB and video extension technology, and IHSE USA LLC, a leading provider of KVM products supporting long distance signal extenders, today announced a partnership to demonstrate at the NAB Show® 2014 (April 7th to 10th in Las Vegas, NV), an IHSE Draco tera matrix switcher system extending USB 3.0 signals through an IHSE USA 417 series fiber extender with ExtremeUSB® extension technology.

USB 3.0 has been rapidly gaining popularity among installers and end-users as it supports a throughput rate of up to 5Gps, approximately ten times faster than USB 2.0. This increased bandwidth makes USB 3.0 ideal for post production editing software, video matrix switches, USB 3.0 cameras, HD videos, and remote storage devices. The NAB demo will display the same large media file extended via USB 3.0 and 2.0 in parallel for direct comparison.

The IHSE USA 417 series is capable of extending USB 3.0 transmissions up to 100 meters over OM3 multi-mode fiber optic cabling. This USB 3.0 fiber extender comes with the ExtremeUSB suite of features such as transparent USB extension, true plug and play and compatibility with Windows®, Linux® and Mac OS X® operating systems. The 417 USB 3.0 series is housed in a rugged aluminum chassis featuring two locking USB 3.0 ports and a locking power connector.

“The need for faster data transfers has fueled the growth of USB 3.0,” said Dan Holland, Marketing Manager at IHSE USA. “Last year, we were the first video matrix provider to include USB 3.0 switching capability by incorporating ExtremeUSB technology. Since then, the awareness of USB 3.0’s bandwidth and plug and play simplicity has grown substantially and we expect broadcast applications to be in high demand.”

“Video files can be quite large and USB 3.0 with its 5Gbps throughput rate, offers a perfect interface for post production editing or remote storage transfer to equipment that could be some distance away,” said Glenn Antonelli, Icron’s Vice President of Marketing. “The demo by IHSE at NAB will illustrate quite nicely how well suited USB 3.0 is for broadcast applications.”
