Burnaby, British Columbia – February 4, 2014Icron Technologies Corporation, a leader in USB and video extension technology, and Pleora Technologies Inc. , the world’s leading supplier of high-performance video interfaces, today announce successful interoperability testing between Pleora’s iPORT™ NTx-U3 Embedded Video Interface products and Icron’s USB 3.0 extension series: the 15-meter Spectra™ 3001-15 active extension cable and the 100-meter Spectra™ 3022 fiber based extender system.

USB 3.0 cameras are rapidly increasing in popularity for machine vision applications due to their desirable blend of resolution, frame rate and affordability; however, USB 3.0 cable reach is typically limited to about three meters, causing installation issues when longer distances are required. Icron’s Spectra extender series, with ExtremeUSB® technology, addresses this distance issue by extending full USB3.0 performance up to 100 meters. Supplying 5Gbps bandwidth over distance is driving the broader adoption of the USB 3.0 interface across a wider range of applications.

“Camera manufacturers and system integrators are deploying our iPORT NTx-U3 products to fast-track the design of USB3 Vision-compliant imaging solutions for quality inspection, traffic, medical, and security applications,” stated John Phillips, Senior Manager, Product Management at Pleora. “Successful interoperability of the iPORT NTx-U3 with Icron’s ExtremeUSB extension technology will help contribute to an even broader adoption of USB 3.0 imaging devices in applications where extended reach is a key requirement.”

“Pleora is well recognized in the vision industry for their video interface solutions,” said Glenn Antonelli, Icron’s Vice President of Marketing. “They have taken a leadership position in pushing global standards to move the industry forward and confirming ExtremeUSB extension interoperability is yet another step of significance.”

Pleora’s iPORT NTx-U3 Embedded Video interface hardware provides camera manufacturers and system manufacturers with a straightforward path to integrate USB3 Vision-compliant video connectivity into their products while reducing development time, deployment risk, and costs. The iPORT NTx-U3 is also available as an Intellectual Property package that supports the development of customized hardware and FPGA (field-programmable gate array) load.

The Spectra 3001-15 and 3022 extend USB 3.0 at 5Gbps and feature locking connectors per AIA USB3 Vision™ specification. Additionally, both extenders come with a two-year warranty and include the ExtremeUSB® suite of features such as transparent USB extension, true plug and play (no software drivers) and compatibility with all major operating systems including Windows® 8.

The Spectra 3001-15 will be exhibited at the SPIE Photonics West show at the Moscone Centre in San Francisco in the Pleora booth (# 4203) beginning today until February 6th.
