Icron introduces new USB 2.0 extension solutions with up to 10km range

BURNABY, B.C. Dec 13, 2005 – Icron Technologies Corporation (TSX Venture: IT), the developers of ExtremeUSB® today announced the introduction of three new additions to its USB 2.0 extension product family, the USB 2.0 Ranger 442, 444 and 440 extenders.

Building on the success of the USB 2.0 Ranger 140, which was the first and only long range USB 2.0 extension solution launched earlier this year, Icron adds more ports, and longer distances via fiber optics. The Ranger 440 is a 4-port CAT5 extender with a 50m range. The Ranger 442 is a 4-port, multimode fiber based solution with a 500m range, and the Ranger 444 is a 4-port singlemode fiber based solution with up to 10 km range.

As in all Icron’s ExtremeUSB based solutions, ExtremeUSB 2.0 technology allows manufacturers of PC’s, peripherals, and consumer electronics to extend the range that USB 2.0 devices can operate over UTP cable, fiber optics or any wireless media at any distance without making any changes to the USB ecosystem. This ensures that users will have a “plug and play” experience right out of the box, requiring no additional drivers, host controller changes, or user configurations. It supports all USB supported operating systems including Windows, MAC OS, Linux, Unix and Solaris.
“The demand for Icron’s USB 2.0 based solutions continues to grow in both the consumer and industrial markets as much of the old legacy connection methods are replaced with USB 2.0 ports,” commented Robert Eisses, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing for Icron. “The release of these additional wired USB extension solutions along with our wireless USB 2.0 initiatives will further fuel our growth for 2006 and beyond.”
