Icron Announces Patent For ExtremeUSB

BURNABY, B.C., May 22, 2002 – Icron Technologies Corporation (TSX Venture: IT), a leading provider of extended range, high performance connectivity technologies for the industrial and commercial computing marketplace, today announced that its patent application for ExtremeUSBÿ technology has been granted.

Icron’s US patent incorporates its communications protocol that preserves standard Universal Serial Bus (USB) functionality and timing restrictions while accommodating the increased cable delay incurred in extended range transmissions.

“This news means that our technology is formally recognized and protected in our most important market. Icron will continue to build on the growing technical and market success of ExtremeUSB™ based products,” said John McLeod, Icron’s Vice President of Engineering.

ExtremeUSB™ technology, invented by Icron Technologies Corporation, enables USB peripherals to be placed wherever users need them, up to a 2-kilometer distance from a host computer. When used with Icron’s ExtremeUSB products, peripheral devices function as if they are within the accepted USB protocol distance for communicating with the computer.

Icron is penetrating several large vertical markets worldwide, from industrial automation to themed entertainment venues, with products that rely on ExtremeUSB™ technology. The company provides packaged product solutions, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) modules, developer kits, and engineering and development services.

Icron Technologies Corporation of Burnaby, B.C. has invented ExtremeUSBÿ technology, a practical means of extending the range of USB connections from 5 meters to 2 kilometers. Icron’s USB Rangerÿ products are the only USB extenders that are compliant with the USB Implementers Forum requirements. Icron is working with a number of partner companies to integrate its technology into products for various computing applications. Icron’s mission is to be the global leader in technologies that bring the benefits of Universal Serial Bus to commercial and industrial computing marketplaces.
