BURNABY, B.C., August 4, 2004 – Icron Technologies Corporation (TSX Venture: IT), a provider of long-range USB and DVI extension technologies announced today the first of its family of Hi-Speed USB 2.0 extenders – the USB Ranger 130 and USB Ranger 140. Through the use of its patented and compliant ExtremeUSB® technology, Icron is able to extend USB devices well beyond the normal limit of 5 meters using copper or fiber-optic media.
The new USB 2.0 Ranger 130/140 extenders represent a significant milestone in the USB market, supporting USB 2.0 peripheral devices at speeds up to 480 Mb/s over a distance of 50 meters (165 ft.). The USB 2.0 Ranger 130/140 are single port, Class A devices which connect host computer and peripherals with standard Category 5 UTP cable.
“Icron’s customers have been anticipating an extender that will support a growing number of Hi-Speed USB 2.0 peripherals including disc drives, webcams, scanners, cameras, printers and routers, said Robert Eisses, Icron’s VP, Sales and Marketing. “Our customers in the data acquisition, medical and biometric/security markets have been eagerly awaiting a high-speed, USB 2.0 extension solution.”
“With the USB 2.0 Ranger 130/140”, Mr. Eisses added, “Icron has once again positioned itself as the premier provider of long-range USB extension.”
