Icron Systems Inc. (CDNX: ICM), the world’s leading provider of USB extension products, today announced development plans for its new ExtremeUSB™ 2.0 extension technology. ExtremeUSB 2.0 extension technology will support data transfer rates of up to 480 Mbps in accordance with the USB 2.0 specification.Icron will be showcasing its plans for ExtremeUSB 2.0 at the upcoming COMDEX in Las Vegas, November 13-17.

The USB 2.0 standard, 40 times faster than the current 12 Mbps USB 1.1 standard, solidifies USB as the standard connection bus of the future for data intensive, high speed, applications such as mass storage, video, Internet access appliances, scanners, local area networks, data acquisition, IP telephony, multimedia computing and MP3 compressed audio files.

The USB 2.0 standard does not however, address the 5-meter distance limitation inherent in USB 1.1. Icron’s ExtremeUSB 2.0 extension technology will provide for a practical and cost effective means of extending USB 2.0 device connections beyond this 5-meter limitation. In addition, Icron’s ExtremeUSB 2.0 technology will be fully backward and forward compatible with all USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 compliant devices.

Mats Gerschman, Icron’s president and CEO, stated, “We are extremely pleased to unveil our development plans for ExtremeUSB 2.0 extension technology. Clearly, with Microsoft Corp. including the USB 2.0 software stack in their future releases of the Windows 2000 and Windows Millennium operating systems, USB 2.0 will enjoy a rapid adoption rate in the commercial and industrial marketplace. Icron intends to deliver USB 2.0-level products when the marketplace needs them. With ExtremeUSB 2.0, we are ideally positioned to provide the USB extension solutions that our customers will require in the new multimedia computing applications being developed in this higher bandwidth segment.”

Icron’s products, with ExtremeUSB technology, have already gained acceptance in the server, keyboard, video and mouse extension, entertainment, professional audio video, industrial control, computer telephony, webcam services and computer distribution markets.

Icron Systems, Inc. of Vancouver, B.C. has invented ExtremeUSB technology, a practical means of extending the range of USB 1.1 connections from 5 meters to over 100 meters. Icron has applied for patents covering its inventions and is integrating its technology into a series of products for computing applications. Icron’s USB RangerTM products are the only USB extenders that are compliant with the USB Implementers Forum’s requirements. Icron is committed to working with its partners to increase the total market for USB products by enabling a broad set of new applications that utilize ExtremeUSB. Icron is a publicly traded company and trades under the symbol ICM on the Canadian Venture Exchange.
