BURNABY, B.C., June 4, 2002 – Icron Technologies Corporation (TSX Venture Exchange: IT), a leading provider of extended range, high performance connectivity technologies for the industrial and commercial computing marketplace, today announced the release of a new product derived from Icron’s patented ExtremeUSBÿ technology.
The USB Defender product, launched by Accurate Technologies Inc., of Wixom, Michigan, is a USB Hub designed for industrial computing markets. The USB Defender optically-isolates all four USB device ports and the single up-stream port to the PC. The benefit is that unwanted electrical ground loops that may occur between a control module and a PC are eliminated. Solutions of this type are extremely important as Universal Serial Bus (USB) is increasingly being used in environments where the connection between computers and peripheral devices must be both robust and simple to implement.
Accurate Technologies Inc. provides world-class power train development tools, test instrumentation and motor sports products. ATI competes in a highly technical and expensive environment. Its customers are some of the largest companies in the world, including automotive manufacturers.
Accurate’s USB Defender product is the result of joint development work between Icron and Accurate Technologies. According to John McLeod, Icron’s Vice President of Engineering, “Icron’s expertise with the USB protocol enabled us to design a solution that answered the challenge in Accurate’s market. We will continue to leverage our technology base and engineering expertise as Icron develops additional business partnerships worldwide.”
Icron Technologies Corporation of Burnaby, B.C. has invented ExtremeUSBÿ technology, a practical means of extending the range of USB connections from 5 meters to 2 kilometers. Icron’s USB Rangerÿ products are the only USB extenders that are compliant with the USB Implementers Forum requirements. Icron is working with a number of partner companies to integrate its technology into products for various computing applications. Icron’s mission is to be the global leader in technologies that bring the benefits of Universal Serial Bus to commercial and industrial computing marketplaces. Icron is a publicly traded company and trades under the symbol IT on the Canadian Venture Exchange Inc.
